Newsletter from today:

Hi Everyone!

Sorry there was no newsletter last week. I was away on holiday again. This time in Cornwall.
You can check out what I got up to here: http://www.squidoo.com/cornish-holiday

There’s not a lot of textiles news this week and I’ve decided that I won’t be using this newsletter again.

Instead I’ve set up a group on Yahoo for us all. This works as a newsletter but also as a way for us all to interact, a message archive and a way for us all to share our crafty stuff.

This isn’t just for me, this is a space for you too - where you can add your own crafty links (and any artsy and crafty links you think the group will be interested in), your own photos, and your own messages.

I’ve just set the place up so there isn’t a huge amount of info there at the moment so please feel free to start adding your own textile, crafty, artsy gorgeousness!

I shall be doing some serious textiles catching up next week so hopefully they’ll be some news and eye candy from me up there then.

To join, please visit here: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/meltedfabrics/

I look forward to seeing you there!

Have a lovely weekend!

Newsletter from 11th September

Hi Everyone!

It's just a quick newsletter this week.

******************************************************

This week has been about catching up. I made my first Live Journal post in about 2 months here: http://melted-rachel.livejournal.com/173767.html#cutid1

******************************************************

I've been doing some knitting with my unspun wool:

Bella mitten

This is my first attempt of knitting cables and I pleased to find it's easier than I originally thought.

******************************************************

I've been doodling places in Cornwall: http://www.squidoo.com/waiting-for-cornwall

******************************************************

And I've been exploring romantic paintings through the eyes of Barbara Cartland: http://www.squidoo.com/barbara-cartlands-book-of-love-and-lovers

******************************************************

I've been thinking a lot about hats and fascinators recently so keep your eyes peeled for Melted Fabrics developments in those areas!

******************************************************

Have a lovely sunny weekend!

Newsletter from the 5th September

Hi Everyone!

This week I've been trying to see if I could make a wig out of nothing but bits of recycled fabric. It seems to be going well so far although hand sewing really takes a long time.

This is all part of my plan to explore Frida Kahlo's paintings through textiles work.

WIG WIP

Hopefully it's going to look more impressive once it's done!

******************************************************

I also spent hours converting my studio space into a fake craft stall for a bit of a laugh.

You can find out all about it here: http://www.squidoo.com/rachels-craft-stall

Here's a creature I recently made:

Newsletter from 28th August

Hi Everyone!

Sorry it's been a couple of weeks since I last sent a newsletter. I hope you're all well.

******************************************************

This week I've started working on a series of large pieces based on paintings by Frida Kahlo.

This piece here is based on the background in one of her portraits:

Frida Project

and this bird is from another painting:

Frida Project

Hopefully I'll have more to show you next friday- this project's taking me a while!

******************************************************

If anyone's interested in having their own handmade business I recently typed some mostly-online tips up here:

*****************************************************

And if you want to know what I got up to whilst I was away recently have a look at this collection of lenses:

Newsletter from August 7th

Hi Everyone!

Sorry there was no newsletter last week. I've been away from home, in the South East, recharging my batteries and thinking of lots of new ideas for textiles pieces!

******************************************************

Remember the textiles piece and doodle from my last newsletter? Well, I managed to finish it by hand when I whilst I was on holiday. Here it is:

September and the Leopard of little breezes

In case you can't tell- it's a girl, with her heair over her head, one leg up(without shoe), sat on a giant leopard!

I'm really pleased with the leopard. I'm thinking of producing a few more similar pieces to this one and making them available for sale.

Whilst I stayed in London for a few days I visited Hampton Court Palace and saw these amazing tapestries- thought you like to have a look at a couple of details:

Hampton Court Tapestry Hampton Court Tapestry

How fabulous are those? I think they're beautiful.
